CyberSouth: Study visit in Algeria

Within the framework of CyberSouth, a joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe, a study visit was conducted in Algeria during 7-8 November 2018. The activity was aiming to have a better overview of the current cybercrime capabilities of the D.G.S.N. (Direction Générale de la Sécurité Nationale) and the National Gendarmerie in Algeria regarding specialized training needs, human resources and unit structure, investigative skills and procedures, and national and international law enforcement cooperation.

Algerian authorities have demonstrated a strong committed to the project and showed a good understanding of the cybercrime challenges and threats, playing an important role in the region.

This joint activity also looked to identify synergies with CT MENA project (Counter-terrorism in the Middle East and North Africa), which is working in assisting countries from the region in different areas including cybercrime.

The results of this study visit will conclude into future cybercrime capacity building activities to support Algerian authorities, under the framework of the CyberSouth project.
