On 10-11 October 2019, the Council of Europe organised jointly with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean a Conference on counter-terrorism and the impact of the new technology, under the framework of the CyberSouth project. The event gathered parliamentarians from Algeria, Cyprus, Greece, France, Malta, Palestine*, Portugal, Qatar, Tunisia and Turkey, as well as members of the Arab Parliament, NATO and academia, to discuss on legal instruments and international initiatives in the field of countering terrorism, cybercrime and the exchange of electronic evidence.
The meeting was the opportunity for parliamentarians to be acquainted with the legislative challenges when drafting legislation to ensure the positive obligation of States to protect their population against crime and follow the rule of law and human rights requirements.
The Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Mr Wojciech Sawicki welcomed parliamentarians at the opening of the conference.
