Back iPROCEEDS: UCD Graduate Testimony: Little did I know that UCD could have such a profound impact on me

Bucharest, Romania ,

From 2016,  the iPROCEEDS project has supported the studies of 11 law enforcement officers in a long-distance master programme on Forensic Computing and Cybercrime Investigation,  offered by the University College Dublin, Ireland.  The programme run for 24 months and has covered modules as Computer Forensics, Financial Investigation Techniques – Following the Money, Network Investigations, Mobile Devices Investigation, Live Data Forensics, VoIP and Wireless Investigations and others.

Learning took place through a mix of lectures, hands-on labs, case studies, reading, small group and individual exercises, tool demonstrations and in depth-discussions.

Equipped with increased knowledge and improved skills gained during the programme, the students strengthen already during the course of the programme, the capacity to search, seize and confiscate cybercrime proceeds and prevent money laundering on the Internet.

On 4 December 2018, two students graduated the Master Programme on Forensic Computing and Cybercrime Investigation with outstanding results. Working as an investigative Inspector within the Turkish National Police, Cybercrime Department, International Relations Division, İbrahim ÖZDEMİR is one of them.

“When IPROCEEDS offered such an opportunity to study at UCD, it was inevitable to accept it. I had sound information about the master programme on Forensic Computing & Cybercrime Investigation and I knew how prestigious and effective their courses are. Also, being a UCD graduate is of big reputation within the law enforcement community, as your knowledge are certified by a famous institution. Even though other Divisions within the Cybercrime Department have their own expertise about specific subjects such as online fraud, online child exploitation, digital forensics etc., I have to be on top of each topic. Thus, I've chosen specific lectures relevant to my job such as Computer Forensics, Malware Investigations and Network Investigations. I have to admit that working as a cybercrime investigator and studying in the same time was one of the biggest challenges. The workload required sometimes long hours in the office, while the readings, assignments and the exams were not waiting for me to finish my job. Now, having such a diploma in my portfolio, I am considering to enrol into a PhD and to be more active in the academia environment. Little did I know that UCD could have such a profound impact on me and my professional life.”
