CyberSouth: Workshop on the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime in Jordan

On the period of 08-09 October 2018, under the framework of CyberSouth project, a joint programme of the European Union and Council of Europe, a workshop on legislation on cybercrime and electronic evidence took place in Amman, Jordan.

The activity was organised by the Jordan Armed Forces and the participants were from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Judicial Council, Judicial Institute, Public Security Department, Ministry of Telecommunication, and the Central Bank of Jordan. The workshop was aiming to bring together the relevant authorities involved in legislative process and law enforcement with responsibilities in enforcing the cybercrime legislation, to discuss about Budapest Cybercrime Convention as international legislative standard on this area and national legislation from Jordan. During the two days workshop the participants engaged in discussions with Council of Europe representatives and experts about the substantive law, procedural powers and instruments on international cooperation focusing on identification of the gaps from the Jordanian legislation which need to be addressed in order to allow Jordan to have the proper answer on cybercrime, also at the international level.

As a result of this activity, Council of Europe representatives agreed with the Jordan Armed Forces to continue to support Jordan in drafting the legislation on cybercrime and electronic evidence and to assist in the process of training of magistrates.
