Around 70 representatives of law enforcement agencies from 45 countries, supported by the Cybercrime Programme Office of the Council of Europe (C-PROC), took part in the EC3 Cybercrime Conference on 16 and 17 October 2024 at the Europol headquarters.
The 2024 edition focused on the key pillars in the fight against cybercrime: detection, investigation and disruption. The meeting gathered a very diverse audience and speakers with various backgrounds including law enforcement, the private sector, academia and international organisations. Discussions focused on impactful operations involving accessing data for early disruption of cybercrime offences, future cybercrime challenges, operational achievements and ways of leveraging technology for successful investigations.
The participants increased their knowledge on the following topics related to: E-Governance, DNS abuse, challenges regarding the access to data, current cybercrime threats and trends and best practices for international cooperation in the fight against cybercrime.
Strategies and tools used to mitigate cybersecurity threats in the context of major events, such as the current war of aggression against Ukraine, were examined in a dedicated session. The participation of the representative of the Cyber Security Department, Security Service of Ukraine was facilitated in view of sharing the challenges faced in dealing with sophisticated cyberattacks coming from the Russian Federation, as well as the high level of support and assistance received from the international partners.
