Croatia: Exhibition on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe in Zagreb

On 20-30 September, an exhibition on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe was organized at the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb as part of the „Mobility Action“ programme. This programme is part of the EU Interreg project „Danube’s Archaeological Landscapes“ (DTP3-641-2.2), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

The exhibition presented the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe passing through Croatia. Croatia is a member State of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes (EPA) since 2016 and is currently crossed by 14 Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe: Phoenicians’ Route, European Route of Jewish Heritage, Saint Martin of Tours Route, Route of the Olive Tree, Iter Vitis Route, European Cemeteries Route, European Route of Historic Thermal Towns, ATRIUM - Architecture of Totalitarian Regimes of the 20th Century In Europe's Urban Memory, Roman Emperors and Danube Wine Route, Destination Napoleon, Impressionisms Routes, European Route of Industrial Heritage, Iron Curtain Trail and Iron Age Danube Route. During the exhibition, visitors were able to familiarise themselves with these Cultural Routes, each of which tells a thematic story related to the rich cultural heritage of a specific region.

The exhibition was co-organized by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia. The author and coordinator of the exhibition project is Ms. Tatjana HORVATIĆ, Head of the Services for Movable, Ethnographic and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Media and Representative of Croatia to the EPA Governing Board. Mr. Davor TRUPKOVIĆ, Director of the Directorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, opened the exhibition.

Since 2020, a consortium of 21 partners from 9 countries has been gathered around the Danube's Archaeological eLandscapes project, funded by the Interreg Danube transnational cooperation program. The project has been exploring new ways to promote and present valuable archaeological heritage, with special focus on archaeological landscapes and Cultural Routes. The Mobility Action program, as part of the project, was organized and hosted by one of the consortium partners, the Archeological Museum in Zagreb. The museum is a member of a recently certified Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, the Iron Age Danube Route.
