Spain: Council of Europe represented at the Honorary Committee of the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrim Routes

On March 23 Ambassador Patrick ENGELBERG, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the Council of Europe and Chair of the EPA Statutory Committee, presented the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme at the opening ceremony of the XII International Congress of the Committee of Experts "Santiago de Compostela: Routes of Knowing, Walking and Believing". The event took place from 23-26 March in Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

Ambassador ENGELBERG attended the event in his capacity as representative of the Council of Europe to the Committee of Honour of the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrim Routes. The committee is presided over by His Majesty Felipe VI, King of Spain.

On 24 October 2019, the Council of the Galician Government (Xunta de Galicia) appointed the Council of Europe as the new Honorary Ambassador of the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrim Routes. The appointment was made on account of the Council of Europe’s contribution to promoting and disseminating knowledge about and the values of the Way of Saint James. The role of Ambassador of the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrim Routes is a prestigious and life-long position. The Council of Europe is the first organisation to receive such a distinction.
