The French Ministry of Culture has just launched a distance learning module on the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe that cross France.

After a few introductory remarks on the Programme and its potential, users will be able to discover a dozen Routes and their origins, thanks to the presentations given by their managers.

Each presentation allows visitors to discover the tangible and intangible heritage of each Route’s territory, but also the range of activities, partners and projects set up by the Routes to promote cultural tourism and heritage.

31 Routes cross France, out of the 48 certified in Europe, providing activities and information to discover the cultural and natural heritage of the territories, which constitute a common European cultural heritage. The Routes can be visited on foot, on horseback or by bike.

Registration for this distance learning course is free, and gives you access to the twenty or so modules already available online.

France has been a member of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA) since 2011, and among its founding member States. Today, France is the European country with the largest number of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, counting 31 Cultural Routes crossing the country and 14 Cultural Routes having their headquarters across the country.

Mr. Bruno FAVEL, Head of the World Heritage Mission, Directorate General of Heritage and Architecture of Ministry of Culture, and Ms. Orane PROISY, Head of the European Heritage Projects and Networks Department of Ministry of Culture, are the national representatives of France to the EPA on Cultural Routes.
