Since 1961, various buildings have been transported to the Zaanse Schans district to create a single monumental complex, with historical windmills, wooden houses, barns and workshops from the 18th and 19th. The Zaanse Museum presents utensils, clothing, paintings and factory materials from traditional the food industry. The Zaanse Schans is managed by the Zaanse Schans Foundation (est. 1961). The Foundation maintains and expands the complex as a cultural environment and a tourist destination. The Zaanse Schans is an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.
