Description
The Abbey of Port-Royal is a former Cistercian monastery founded in 1204. Originally a simple Cistercian female abbey, Port-Royal became one of the high places of Catholic reformation during the 17th century, and then one of the symbols of political and religious criticism against royal absolutism. After the destruction of 1712, almost nothing remains of the first monastery. Today the site hosts the Port-Royal National Museum (Musée national de Port-Royal des Champ).
