Description
The Abbey of L’Épau is a former Cistercian monastery founded in the 13th century. Although its sale as a national property in 1791 and its gradual abandonment (despite various occupations until 1959), a the complex is still a preserved and restored symbol of majestic Cistercian architecture (www.cister.net/abbayes/fr/32/epau). The Abbey was definitively saved by the Departmental Council of Sarthe ,which acquired it in 1959.
