The Council of Europe through its joint European Union and Council of Europe “Project against Economic Crime in Kosovo” (PECK III) is supporting enhancement of inter-agency cooperation mechanisms between Kosovo authorities in the supervision of anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) measures.

As a follow-up of the ongoing technical assistance provided, PECK III organised an online workshop on 31 March 2022 to present the findings and recommendations related to the enhancement of AML/CFT supervisory framework and inter-agency cooperation between the Financial Intelligence Unit and sectoral supervisors. Participants from relevant institutions including the Financial Intelligence Unit, Central Bank, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Chamber of Notaries, Kosovo Financial Council, Customs, and Department for Registration of Non-Profit Organisations participated to the discussion and contributed through their input on targeted and effective ways to enhance the supervision of specific obliged entities in the AML/CFT area.

Participants got acquainted with the recommendations and discussed the proposed modalities for enhancing cooperation in relation to AML/CFT supervisory duties based on international standards and good practice. The meeting was also an opportunity for participants to discuss existing options for formalising the cooperation between the FIU and potential sectoral supervisors, including through Memorandums of Understanding.

PECK III will continue to support the authorities in strengthening the AML/CFT supervisory cooperation framework.
