The Council of Europe through its joint European Union and Council of Europe Project against Economic Crime in Kosovo (PECK III) is supporting the authorities of Kosovo* in strengthening the asset recovery and management system.

In this respect, PECK III organised a regional peer-to-peer exchange seminar on 26 and 27 January 2023 in Tirana, Albania.

The event aimed to provide a platform for sharing good practices and discussing challenges related to identification, tracing, recovery, management, and disposal of confiscated assets as well as to enhance the common understanding in the field of international cooperation for asset recovery purposes.

The event brought together 50 participants from Albania, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia representing Prosecution, Judiciary, Financial Intelligence Unit, Police, Customs, Agency for Administration and Sequestration of Assets, Cadastre, and Central Bank.

Participants increased their awareness on international and European Union standards and emerging trends in asset recovery and asset management.

The experience exchanged during this activity and the increased awareness on existing challenges and practical experiences will contribute to the implementation of mechanisms to further strengthen assets recovery and management system in Kosovo by alignment of the legal provisions and implementation arrangements. The Council of Europe will provide further support to Kosovo authorities to strengthen the legal and operational framework on asset recovery.

The activity was organised within the framework of the “Project against Economic Crime in Kosovo” (PECK III), jointly funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
