The implementation of the project “Improving the juvenile justice system and strengthening the education and training of penitentiary staff” was initiated with the organization of two meetings for the assessment of the training capacities and risk assessment tools currently used by the Slovenian Prison Administration.
Representatives of the Prison Administration, international consultants and Council of Europe representative discussed and agreed to gather information on the current state of affairs and share experiences from other Council of Europe members States as well as Council of Europe standards on training of prison staff and risk assessment in prisons.
The findings and recommendations of the subsequent assessment reports will pave the way for the establishment of a Training Academy and Research Institute and the introduction of a modern risk and needs assessment tool, eventually leading to the increase of the professionalism of prison staff.
These activities were organised on 1-2 February 2022 within the framework of project funded by the European Union via the Technical support instrument and implemented by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the European Commission.
