A group of 15 prison and probation practitioners from Albania were trained on the new tools and treatment programme for violent extremist prisoners (VEPs) and radicalised inmates. Through presentations, case studies, role plays and discussion the future programme facilitators improved their knowledge and practical skills on the application of the basic screening and the in-depth risk and needs assessment (RNA) tools. They also enhanced their understanding in radicalisation prevention and further strengthened their skills in VEPs management and treatment planning.
The training session followed the development of the above-mentioned tools and programme and set the minimum preconditions for their piloting by multi-disciplinary teams in two selected prisons in Albania, namely Peqin and Burrel prisons, planned to start in September 2022.
The training, delivered by one international and one local consultant, was organised from 14 to 17 June 2022 in Tirana within the scope of the regional action “Enhancing penitentiary capacities in addressing radicalisation in prisons in the Western Balkans” that is part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
