On 11 February, two Council of Europe Projects, on “Enhancing Health Care and Human Rights Protection in Prisons in Armenia” and “Support the scaling-up of the probation service in Armenia”, as part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia 2019-2022, were launched, presenting the overall objectives to the local partners and beneficiaries.
The Projects will support the national authorities to improve the regulatory and operational framework regarding provision of health care to inmates and to strengthen the role and institutional capacity of the probation service in the country.
The Deputy Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan expressed her full support for both projects and highlighted the importance of the continuous Council of Europe support to the prison and probation services since 2013.
The launching event was followed by the Steering Committee meetings where the operational work plans for starting the implementation phase of both Projects were discussed and adopted. The needs of the beneficiaries for the initial implementation phase were also discussed during a visit of the Projects’ team to the Armavir penitentiary institution on 10 February.
