A meeting on the role of probation agency in the effective implementation of community sanctions and measures was held in Athens, on 6 -7 June 2019.

The Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights of Greece attended the meeting alongside with policy makers, representatives of the judiciary, probation and prison staff and Council of Europe experts. Good practices and experiences were exchanged and promoted regarding the structure, tasks and functioning of the probation agency and the implementation of community sanctions and measures in line with the relevant Council of Europe standards.

Particular reference was made to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe Recommendations, CM/Rec(2017)3 on the European Rules on community sanctions and measures, CM/Rec(2010)1 on the Council of Europe Probation Rules, CM/Rec(2018)8 concerning restorative justice in criminal matters and the Guidelines regarding recruitment, selection, education, training and professional development of prison and probation staff.
