Hungary

Declaration contained in a letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary, handed over to the Secretary General at the time of deposit of the instrument of ratification, on 21 March 1994 - Or. Engl., and withdrawn by a Note Verbale from the Permanent Representation of Hungary, dated 8 March 2002, registered at the Secretariat General on 8 March 2002 - Or. Engl.

The Republic of Hungary hereby announces that on the basis of Article 13 of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and taking the decrees of the Hungarian Law into consideration it declares on the suffrage of the self-governmental bodies as follows:

Hungary, at present, is able to provide only partly the election of the members of the capital and county general assemblies among the self-governmental bodies on the basis of the direct suffrage, because of the following decrees of the Hungarian Law:

- Each of the district bodies of representatives elects a representative into the General Assembly of the Capital. 66 more members of the body of representatives are elected directly on list by the voters of the capital.

- The members of the County General Assembly are elected by the delegates elected by the members of the body of representatives of a community self-government.
