Leen Verbeek : ''We invite European local authorities to create an alliance of European cities against violent extremism''

''We invite all conference participants and especially the host cities Aarhus and Rotterdam, all the members of the Congress and the European Forum and all European local authorities to continue our work against violent extremism by creating an alliance of European local authorities. It will be a platform to facilitate inter-city cooperation on the prevention of radicalisation leading to violent extremism.'' stated Leen Verbeek, Vice-President of the Congress to conclude the International Conference on the ''Prevention of Radicalisation Leading to Violent Extremism'' held in Aarhus, Denmark on 18 November 2015. He recalled, along with Guilherme Pinto, President of the European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS), the central role of local authorities and the need to support and strengthen them in preventing radicalisation leading to violent extremism, and insisted on the need to guarantee individual liberties and avoid dividing communities as well as the importance of fostering a human rights-based approach.
