Back "Open government" as a way to enhance local self-governance in Ukraine

The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (the Congress) is organising jointly with the Association of Ukrainian Cities (AUC) on the 29 and 30 January 2019 in Kiev, Ukraine, a round table to discuss the role of local authorities in the implementation of the Fourth National Action Plan of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) 2018-2020.

The round table will bring together Ukrainian mayors and representatives of local councils, the Government of Ukraine and other national stakeholders, as well as representatives of other national associations of local authorities from Ukraine and other European countries to share experiences and good practices on "open government" and to discuss new ways to further engage citizens in self-governance practices and increase trust at local level.

Furthermore, this event complements the work of the Congress on the promotion of transparency and "open government" as a means of preventing corruption and increasing effectiveness of public services, encouraging local and regional elected representatives to involve citizens in their work through better access to information.

The round table is organised within the project “Strengthening democracy and building trust at local level in Ukraine”, which aims to improve the quality of local democracy in Ukraine by strengthening institutional frameworks and by supporting local authorities and their national associations in their efforts to promote ethical decision-making and more citizen-oriented, inclusive and transparent local governance. The project is implemented by the Congress within the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2018 – 2021.
