The World Forum for Democracy goes forward with an 8th edition – Call for initiatives

The eighth edition of the World Forum for Democracy, to take place in Strasbourg on 6-8 November 2019, will be dedicated to the question “Is democracy in danger in the information age?”. The 2019 Forum participants - politicians, public and private officials, international organisations, civil society, academics, etc. - will analyse the evolution of the information, its reliability, whether it helps or hinders citizens in taking part in democratic processes, and what lessons we should learn for ensuring the free flow of information in the future.

Organisations/institutions worldwide are encouraged to express their interest in presenting an initiative aimed at changing the way people receive and process information. These initiatives should be able to share evidence about efforts that have led to the creation of best practices and new approaches to countering disinformation, while offering a sustainable and ethical solution. The initiatives must help understand how democracy and democratic institutions can help combat fake news and how can artificial intelligence and new technologies become an enabler of democracy.

Interested participants are invited to fill in the Questionnaire for the submission of an initiative in the Call for submissions document below and to send it to [email protected]. The most relevant proposals will be selected by the World Forum Task Force.
