The President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Leendert Verbeek, met the President of Greece, H.E. Mrs Katerina Sakellaropoulou, on 22 June 2022, during her official visit to the Council of Europe.
The two Presidents stressed the importance of the local dimension of the Council of Europe's work in the field of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, which is essential for achieving concrete results.
They also referred to the 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government on the future of the Council of Europe, the success of which will depend on "solid preparation and the definition of clear objectives". The Congress will actively contribute to the reflection group for the preparation of this Summit.
President Verbeek welcomed the active participation of members of the Greek delegation, including Eirini Dourou, spokesperson for Gender equality, and Konstantinos Koukas, Vice-President of the Chamber of Local Authorities and thematic spokesperson for the South Mediterranean Partnership.
