Situation in Ukraine and annexation of Crimea the focal point of Congress session debates
The 26th Session of the Congress, held from 25 to 27 March 2014 in Strasbourg, France, will include several debates on the themes of youth, human rights, as well as on the situation of local and regional democracy in Europe, in particular in Armenia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Sweden, and the results of post-monitoring dialogue in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In response to the situation in Ukraine and in Crimea, the Bureau of the Congress will consider a draft declaration on the issue on 24 March. Subject to their approval, an urgent debate on the situation in Ukraine will take place on 25 March at around 6.30 pm. Furthermore, a ceremony will take place on 25 March to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Congress in 1994, following the Summit of Heads of States and Governments in Vienna in 1993. Herwig van Staa, President of the Congress, will meet the press on 25 March 2014 at 10.30 am in Room 7, Palais de l'Europe, Strasbourg, France.
