“Our communities can become better places to live if we maximise the use of Artificial Intelligence systems for the benefit of the environment.", emphasized David Eray (Switzerland, EPP/CCE), Congress Spokesperson for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) intervening as a keynote speaker at the webinar on opportunities and challenges of AI for sustainable development, organised on 1 February 2023 by the Council of Europe Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAI) on the occasion of its Fourth Plenary meeting.

Highlighting the growing importance of the environment priority in the activities of the Congress he recalled the Congress recommendation and report on a “green reading” of the European Charter of Local Self-Government. “Today, there can be no good local governance without taking into account the environmental issue.” he underlined.

The Congress Spokesperson highlighted the need to reduce the carbon print of artificial intelligence and to develop AI models with sustainable energy and water consumption.
