Congress promotes local democratic renewal through deliberative democracy

The Congress organises a European conference on “Democratic renewal: innovating with deliberative democracy”, which will take place on 20-21 September 2022 in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The conference aims to bring together local leaders, mayors and presidents of councils across Bosnia and Herzegovina and the rest of Europe.

They will discuss the main trends in the area of collaborative governance and innovative co-creation between local authorities and citizens, and the added value of deliberative democracy in times of multiple crises. Through good practices from Bologna (Italy), Brussels and Ostbelgien and (Belgium), Gdansk (Poland), Ireland, Istanbul (Türkiye), Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Northern Ireland (United Kingdom) and Paris (France) participants will delve into follow-up and institutionalisation of deliberative processes, as well as the empowerment of citizens, including underrepresented groups.

The event is open for public and media. Those interested to take part in the conference online are invited to register by filling out this form.

This event is organised in the framework of the project “Innovating democratic participation at local level in Bosnia and Herzegovina” implemented by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities within the Council of Europe Action Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022-2025. The project aims to enhance the quality of local democracy and create opportunities for citizens to engage in innovative participatory processes in Mostar and elsewhere in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It promotes new democratic approaches, open government, public ethics, transparent and inclusive local policy making in the country.
