Congress President meets with Prime Minister of Norway
Congress President Gudrun Mosler-Törnström met with Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway during the World Forum on Democracy, on 7 November in Strasbourg. They discussed the importance of working within networks to promote democracy, Human Rights and the Rule of Law. Ms Mosler-Törnström underlined the role of the Congress as a platform of exchange of experiences and good practices for members, associations and civil society. Ms Solberg praised the work of the Congress in the field of monitoring local and regional democracy, fighting corruption, fighting radicalisation and violent extremism, supporting integration of migrants and refugees as well as interreligious dialogue. “The Congress is doing a lot of relevant work, which corresponds to the needs of the members States, the municipalities and the citizens” she stated. Also co-chair of the UN Secretary-General’s Sustainable Development Goals Advocates, Ms Solberg reminded that quality education for all means equal opportunities for all. “Education is as important for equality as universal suffrage is for democracy”, she underlined.
