Sirpa Paatero, President of the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities, adresses the Congress Bureau

In the framework of the Finnish Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, the Bureau of the Congress met on 1 March 2019, in Helsinki, Finland. At the opening of the meeting, the Bureau members held an exchange of views with the Finnish Minister for Local and Regional Affairs, Anu VEHVILÄINEN.

Among the items on the agenda was the draft resolution on the Congress' contribution to the Helsinki process on the Council of Europe's future prospects.

The Bureau also examined the draft budget for the next biennium 2020-2021 as well as the timetable relating to the priorities of the Congress for the period 2021-2024.

The Bureau also discussed the agenda of the 36th Session, which will be held from 2 to 4 April 2019 in Strasbourg, France, with the annual theme "Mayors safeguarding democracy". 

In addition, the Bureau examined the invitations addressed to the Congress by the authorities of Turkey and Albania to observe the local elections to be held in Turkey on 31 March and Albania on 30 June 2019 respectively.

The Congress' contribution to the reflection on the future of the Council of Europe was adopted on 2 April 2019 during the 36th Session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.
