Back Exhibition honouring the human rights legacy of Andrei Sakharov

[25/01/10 11:00] On 25 January, the exhibition "Andrei D. Sakharov: Alarm and Hope", will be displayed in the Lobby of the Chamber of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, at the initiative of Commissioner Hammarberg and with the support of the Directorate of Communication.

The Commissioner will inaugurate the exhibition on 27 January at 1 pm. The President of the Parliamentary Assembly will also attend, as well as a representative of the Andrei Sakharov Museum and Public Center, which has initiated the exhibition together with Memorial, the Russian human rights association which received the 2009 Sakharov Prize awarded by the European Parliament.

"Andrei Sakharov presented a universal vision for a peaceful and progressive society based on human rights standards", said the Commissioner announcing the exhibition. "His example and thoughts remain topical for our societies".

After the session of the Parliamentary Assembly, the exhibition will be moved on the ground floor of the Council of Europe main building until the 25 February.
