Back Changing media landscape creates crisis of journalism in Europe

[03/05/10 10:00] The media landscape is changing at an unprecedented pace. Ownership concentration, closures of newspapers, cutbacks and de-staffed newsrooms coincide with the outpouring of an extraordinary amount of undigested information on the Internet. Media markets are growing fast, but offer a more superficial coverage. A crisis of journalism is rapidly threatening to become a serious problem for democracy in Europe. At a time when one global crisis seems to follow upon another we need information pluralism and we need journalists who can collect information, analyse a complex world and act as watchdogs for human rights, exposing corruption and misuse of power.
