The impact of Artificial Intelligence on human rights, democracy and the Rule of Law in building a person-friendly future is the theme of a high-level event at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome. Co-organised by the Italian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers and the Council of Europe, the event, on 4 April, is a key part of the Italian Presidency’s programme of events.

The meeting will open with speeches by Undersecretary Benedetto Della Vedova and Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General Bjorn Berge, followed by Alessandro Fusacchia, President of the Parliamentary intergroup on artificial intelligence. Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio’s scientific expert for the digital economy and evolution, Paola Pisano, will moderate.

The meeting’s conclusions will provide in-depth analysis that will serve as input for the work of the Council of Europe’s Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAI) which has a session running from 4-6 April, also at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The CAI’s goal is to negotiate a Council of Europe text for use as a common legal instrument on Artificial Intelligence.
