IT equipment for the Public Prosecution Service and its Structures to improve its functionality

During February- March 2018 over 160 IT devices and equipment for office use have been donated to the Public Prosecution Service, including the General Prosecutor’s Office, Specialised Prosecution Offices and Superior Council of Prosecutors.

The IT equipment in estimated amount of 2 000 000 lei has been offered by the Council of Europe project  ”Support to criminal justice reform in the Republic of Moldova” financed by the Government of Denmark.

Laptops, desktop computers and phones, printers, scanners, projectors, servers, video cameras and other devices offered by the project will contribute to better functioning and improved activity of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Superior Council of Prosecutors and Specialised Prosecution Offices created as a result of the institutional reform implemented.

Understanding the benefits of changes and modernisation we definitely welcome the constant support of the Council of Europe in implementing and promoting the reforms of the Public Prosecution Service by enhancing the institutional capacities, providing necessary technical, financial and human support within many activities deployed. Certainly, the modernisation process of equipment of the Public Prosecution Service of the Republic of Moldova will contribute to the enhancement of the efficiency of prosecutors activity eliminating technical barriers and administrative problems caused by insufficient equipment in the past.” stated on this occasion the Prosecutor General, Eduard Harunjen.

It is worth mentioning that the new law on PPS brought essential constitutional, legislative and regulatory amendments, as well as structural and functional changes within the institution to assure a more transparent and sound justice in Moldova.

The adoption of the new PPS law was an important step for Moldova towards assuring a fair, independent and transparent justice for citizens where human rights are respected. In this context the Superior Council of Prosecutors plays an important role in assuring Public Prosecution Service’s upright functionality as an independent institution. Therefore consistent support and assistance is offered by the CoE project to align the functioning of the SCP to European standards and best practices.” considers Eva Gutjahr, acting head of CoE office in Chisinau.

The project has contributed to the development of the new law on PPS along with related legislative and regulatory frameworks and is committed to support further on the implementation of the reform by enhancing and consolidating the professional and institutional capacities of prosecutors in line with CoE and international standards.

The CoE project “Support to criminal justice reforms in the Republic of Moldova” was launched in January 2015 and is part of the Program “Support to Human Rights and Democracy in Moldova” financed by the Government of Denmark. The overall objective of the project is to support the Republic of Moldova for the purpose of fulfilling its outstanding statutory and accession commitments towards the Council of Europe in the field of criminal justice. One of the specific objectives of the project is enhancing the capacity among key stakeholders to ensure the compliance of the criminal justice sector legislation with European standards and to support the institutional reform of the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).
