The prevention of sexual abuse against kindergarten children was discussed during the Workshop Kiko and the hand: Protective educators, protected children. Prevention of sexual abuse against preschool children, which was held on 23 – 24 January 2020, in Chisinau. The workshop was attended by kindergarten teachers and facilitated by Council of Europe consultants. The event was organised in Chisinau by the Council of Europe project on protecting children from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse in the Republic of Moldova, as a follow up of the training of trainers for master trainers organized in October 2019.
The participants were trained by use of an experiential approach to training, particularly by: construction of the main concepts through personal insights about individual experiences, discussion in small groups and with all participants; integration of operative concepts in the professional practice; development of abilities for the facilitation of trainings.
The workshop aimed at improving the skills of professionals working with kindergarten and preschool-aged children to detect, prevent and respond to child sexual abuse. The workshop provided tools to break the silence and taboos surrounding child sexual abuse and provide professionals working with children aged 3-6 years with concrete tools and support to address children, parents and school administration to combat this phenomenon.The workshop was organized under the 2nd intermediate outcome of the project ”Strengthened capacities and skills of authorities, professionals and civil society organisations to design and implement effective responses to child sexual exploitation and sexual abuse measures”.
