The Council of Europe continues its efforts to support the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) in the process of implementation of 2022 EU TAIEX recommendations. In this respect, the Council of Europe is providing expert support to the NIJ for addressing the recommendations concerning the initial training of candidates for the position of judges and prosecutors.
On 9-11 July 2024, as part of this complex and ongoing process, Mr Francesco Perrone, international consultant of the Council of Europe, held consultation meetings in Chisinau with the staff and trainers of the NIJ, members of the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Superior Council of Prosecutors, as well as judges and prosecutors – graduates of the NIJ, and candidates for the position of judges and prosecutors currently undergoing training at the NIJ. Mr Perrone also attended selected sessions of initial training at the NIJ.
The consultations were organised in the view of facilitating the analysis of the concept, curriculum, and methodology of the initial training of candidates for the position of judges and prosecutors. As a result of a comprehensive analysis and considering the findings in 2022 EU TAIEX report, specific recommendations for the improvement of different aspects of the initial training will be provided to the NIJ.
The activity is carried out within the framework of the joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe "Support to the Justice Reform in the Republic of Moldova".
