Course on violence against women and domestic violence for legal professionals launched in the Republic of Moldova

On 25 May 2022, the Council of Europe project “Supporting the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in the Republic of Moldova”, together with the National Institute of Justice, launched the Human rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) course on violence against women and domestic violence for legal professionals. Participants included judges, prosecutors, legal assistants, clerks, prosecutors’ advisers, legal aid lawyers and law students.

The training course aims to build the capacity of participants to, on the one hand, understand and use the existing standards on violence against women and domestic violence, including the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (known as the Istanbul Convention), and on the other hand, be better equipped to deal with cases of violence against women, including by putting the victims’ rights at the centre. The course follows the HELP training methodology, and it will be tutored by two trainers from the National Institute of Justice, who will be providing the national adaptation of the course in order to contextualise it to the Moldovan reality.
