Council of Europe presents the achievements and future plans of the project

The Council of Europe organised the second planning meeting of the steering committee for the project on protecting children from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse in the Republic of Moldova on 4 October 2019 in Chisinau.

In his welcoming remarks, the Head of the Policies to Prevent and Combat Crimes Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mr Vladislav Cojuhari, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to continue further actions to ensure the fairness and efficiency of law enforcement agencies in respect to children’s rights. The meeting succeeded in discussing with all implementing partners across sectors the project’s achievements and further activities to be implemented by the end of the project.

The project aims at supporting the Republic of Moldova to effectively implement the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse (the Lanzarote Convention), strengthen the state response towards child sexual exploitation and sexual abuse and promote child-friendly practices especially for the judiciary.

The project implementing partners are: Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, Supreme Court of justice, General Prosecution Office, National Council for the Protection of Child's Rights, Ombudsperson for children’s rights and National Institute of Justice. La Strada and CNPAC participated as civil society observers to the meeting.

The project is implemented in the period of 15 October 2018 - 31 March 2020.
