A new project to support the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in the Republic of Moldova has been launched

The project Supporting the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in the Republic of Moldova” was officially launched online on 13 April 2022. The project is being implemented under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova for 2021-2024 jointly with its partners: Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Institute of Justice.

During the event, the project team presented the activities part of the support to the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (VAW/DV) implementation in the Republic of Moldova. The project activities will be implemented across three levels of action: awareness-raising on standards on VAW/DV, capacity-building of professionals dealing with preventing and combating VAW/DV, and strengthening multi-agency co-operation in the field.

The event also brought together the project partners, civil society, international and local actors in the field of preventing and combating violence against women and girls. Particular emphasis was put on the need to include refugee and migrant women and women on the move, in the current context faced by the Republic of Moldova as a result of the outflow of refugees coming from Ukraine.

Following the project official launching, the first meeting of the project Steering Committee took place. The participants discussed the project activities in details to create synergies across actors and ongoing actions in the field.
