Working group meets to draft handbook on child-friendly information for children in migration

The first working group of experts to draft a handbook for professionals on child-friendly information for children in migration on access to rights and procedures met on 9-10 April. This handbook is part of the Council of Europe Action plan on protecting refugee and migrant children (2017-2019).

Child-friendly information is understood as including any method of communication that is adapted to the age and maturity of the child, given in a language which they can understand and which is gender and culture sensitive.

Five national experts working with children in migration in Council of Europe member States will draft the handbook to equip states and professionals to communicate with children in a child-friendly way.

The handbook will build on the findings and recommendations of the round-table on this subject which took place in November 2017, the recommendations of children in migration who took part in workshops on child-friendly information for children in migration in 2017 and will include practical examples of good practices of child-friendly information.

The second working group will take place in May 2018.
