The crucial issue of being safe online will once again be addressed at this year's Internet Governance Forum (IGF).

On Wednesday, 20 December from 16.40 to 17.10, the Children’s Rights Division will launch its newly revised Internet Literacy Handbook during a flash session chaired by Ambassador Corina Călugăru, Thematic Co-ordinator on Information Policy (TC-INF), Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, and assisted by Ms Gisella Gori, Children’s Rights Division, DG2.

The expert revisers of the Internet Literacy Handbook, Ms Janice Richardson, Creator of Safer Internet Day and Senior consultant on children’s rights, education and awareness (Insight)Dr Elizabeth Milovidov, Consultant and Coach on Digital Parenting, Mr Martin Schmalzried, Senior Policy Officer, COFACE (Confederation of Family Organizations in the EU)  will animate the session  through an attractive and interactive presentation incorporating a quiz and Q&As.

The session aims at demonstrating the usefulness and importance of the tool in helping children, parents, educators, and policy makers navigate through todays’ ever-increasing information flow. Using straightforward and easy to digest language, the Handbook provides beginners and adepts alike with handy tips on how to confidently and safely handle both the opportunities and the risks of the Internet making it a place for building knowledge and understanding, challenging conventional wisdom, and promoting positive change.
