I am deeply shocked by the terrorist attacks which took place in Brussels this morning. I wish to convey my condolences and deep sympathy to the families and friends of the victims. I also express my solidarity to the Belgian people and their authorities in these tragic circumstances.

This is yet a further attack against our democracies following those which have recently occurred on the territory of other Council of Europe member States. We must resolutely continue to combat terrorism in full respect of the values and principles that unite our continent.
