The European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) participated in the final Steering Committee of the South Programme IV aimed at taking stock of the progress made and at preparing the next phase V of the South Programme on 8 June at Casa Mediterráneo, in Alicante, Spain. The final Steering Committee meeting was followed by the regional conference on “Building a common legal space: a decade of joint action in the Southern Mediterranean region” marking 10 years of the South Programme on 9 June 2022.
In these 10 years, the CEPEJ, via its work under the South Programme (SP) I, II, III and IV, built strong relations with the judicial authorities and legal professionals of certain countries of the Region (Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt in particular).
An "on demand" approach was pursued and aimed at meeting the specific needs of beneficiaries. Thus, responding to a request targeting the efficiency of justice the cooperation has evolved towards an approach more focused on the quality of justice and cyberjustice.
The SP also served as a platform for common discussion and exchange of good practices on issues related to the quality and efficiency of justice at regional level.
This event was organised in the framework of the joint program between the European Union and the Council of Europe entitled “Regional Support to Reinforce Human Rights, Rule of Law and Democracy in the Southern Mediterranean (South Programme IV)”, co-financed by the two Organisations and implemented by the Council of Europe.
