On 29 November 2018, the CEPEJ international expert Ms Julinda Beqiraj met with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice to present the preliminary findings of the second CEPEJ assessment of the judicial system in Kosovo, based on the 2017 data, and to discuss the recommendations made in the first assessment report, which are still entirely valid at the present time. These findings, according to the Secretary General, are particularly relevant and valuable for the discussions on efficiency of the judicial system, which are being held in the framework of the Functional Review process of the Rule of Law Sector led by the Ministry of Justice. The establishment of a sustainable process of data collection was also discussed, with the appointment of a coordinator in charge of this process within the Ministry of Justice. The expert also met with the Chair of the Kosovo Judicial Council and the director of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council. They reiterated their continued willingness to contribute to these regular assessments based on the CEPEJ methodology.
The expert mission was organised by the KoSEJ Action “Strengthening the quality and efficiency of justice in Kosovo”, which is part of the programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey", co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
