A multinational team of experts led by the CEPEJ President, Mr Georg Stawa, visited the Slovak Republic on 6-8 November 2018. As part of this mission the experts had a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Justice. Mr Gábor Gál, Minister of Justice, and Ms Edita Pfundtner, State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, expressed appreciation for the cooperation with the CEPEJ and for the report “Efficiency and quality of the Slovak judicial system - Assessment and recommendations on the basis of CEPEJ tools” published in February 2018. The interest in continued cooperation in view of implementing the recommendations of this report was confirmed by both sides.
The experts also paid visits to the district courts of Bratislava I, Banská Bystrica, and Kosice I designated as pilot courts for the purpose of testing the CEPEJ tools in their day-to-day activities. In the course of the visits to the pilot courts were discussed proposals for activities to be carried out as part of the CEPEJ court coaching programme. The outlined priorities refer to monitoring timeframes for different categories of cases through a new module of the IT case management system registering the phases of court proceedings (in all 3 visited pilot courts); regular reporting on court’s results through the use of CEPEJ-recommended performance indicators (in district courts Banská Bystrica and Kosice I) and conducting a satisfaction survey of court users (in district court Kosice I). Corresponding activities should be implemented by the end of March 2019, with participation of the Analytical Centre of the Ministry of Justice.
