The Council of Europe, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union officially launch two cooperation programmes in Tunisia to strengthen the independence of the judiciary and improve the functioning of the judicial system

On 20 June 2019, the Council of Europe, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Delegation of the European Union in Tunisia, organised the official launch of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programmes "Project to Support Independent Bodies in Tunisia (PAII-T)" and "Improving the functioning, performance and access to justice in Tunisia (AP-JUST)". The general objective of the PAII-T is to support the establishment of independent Tunisian bodies and to support them in the exercise of their mandate. The AP-JUST Programme will contribute to strengthening the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, improving the quality of justice and promoting its access to all litigants.
This event has been an opportunity to discuss, together with the partners and beneficiaries of the programmes, the challenges ahead in their implementation and the means to ensure their success.
These programmes have been officially launched in the presence of Mr Khemaies Jhinaoui, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Tunisian Republic, Ms Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe and Mr Patrice Bergamini, Head of the European Union Delegation in Tunisia
