CEPEJ’s support to establishing remote court hearings in Ukraine

The third meeting of the Working group tasked to develop a Practical guide on the remote court hearings in the context of the ongoing war based on the CEPEJ Guidelines on videoconferencing in judicial proceedings took place on 21 November. CEPEJ experts and the representatives of the Supreme Court, the High Council of Justice and the Council of Judges of Ukraine have thus jointly continued drafting a practical document on online hearings in civil, criminal or administrative court proceedings, in accordance with the principle of fair trial and responding to specific technical and organisational requirements.

Moreover, following consultations with Ukrainian judicial authorities held on 16 September 2022, another team of CEPEJ experts has finalised the analysis with their list of recommendations on revising the draft Law “On Amendments to the Code of Administrative Court Procedure of Ukraine, the Civil Procedural Code of Ukraine and the Economic Procedural Code of Ukraine, on the conduct of proceedings under martial law or state of emergency”.

The CEPEJ will provide support to Ukrainian judicial authorities from July to December 2022 in the framework of the Council of Europe project "Support for judicial institutions and processes to strengthen access to justice in Ukraine”.
