European Committee on Crime Problems (CDPC) gathers for its 79th plenary meeting

The European Committee on Crime Problems (CDPC) gathered on 28-30 June 2021 for its 79th plenary meeting via teleconference under the Chairmanship of Mr Jesper Hjortenberg (Denmark).

 

During this meeting the CDPC approved the text of the draft Recommendation regarding the assessment, management and reintegration of persons accused or convicted of a sexual offence and its explanatory report and decided to submit it to the Committee of Ministers for adoption.

 

The Committee furthermore approved the draft terms of reference of the CDPC Drafting Committee on the elaboration of a legal instrument on AI and criminal law related to vehicles and automated driving and agreed to set up a working group to draft a recommendation on the rights of victims taking into account the rights and position of offenders and other persons involved in the criminal law process.

 

The CDPC also discussed and welcomed the progress made in the work by its Working Group on the Environment and Criminal Law (CDPC-EC) notably that an outline of a feasibility study of a possible new Council of Europe future convention the protection of environment through criminal law will be soon completed as well as of its subordinate Committees, the PC-CP and the PC-OC.

 

The next plenary meeting will take place on 7-9 December 2021.

Set up in 1958, the European Committee on Crime Problems (CDPC) was entrusted by the Committee of Ministers the responsibility for overseeing and coordinating the Council of Europe’s activities in the field of crime prevention and crime control. The CDPC meets at the headquarters of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (France).

The CDPC identifies priorities for intergovernmental legal co-operation, makes proposals to the Committee of Ministers on activities in the fields of criminal law and procedure, criminology and penology, and implements these activities.

The CDPC elaborates conventions, recommendations and reports. It organises criminological research conferences and criminological colloquia, conferences of directors of prison administration.
