“Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia” Project continues to support the Independent Inspector’s Office

The Council of Europe organised a two-day training for the Independent Inspector’s Office (the Office) in Kakheti, Georgia on 28-29 April 2018. The training on Legal Drafting and Analysis is a follow-up to the needs assessment visit, which took place on 15-16 February 2018. The training provided a possibility to identify and discuss a number of areas that were crucial for the efficient functioning of the Office.

Ms Ketevan Tsintsadze, Independent Inspector, highlighted the importance of the Council of Europe support to this newly established institution. In her words, these activities will contribute to strengthening the Inspector’s Office and its readiness to efficiently handle the sensitive area of judicial accountability with impartiality. The training focused on the established academic structures for legal writing. It took into account the specificities of Independent Inspector’s reports in respect of the analysis of alleged misconduct by judges. The participants’ active involvement ensured successful completion of the training that will “assist the staff in assessing their upcoming work from a different, more critical perspective”. The “Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia” Project will continue to provide support to the activities of the Office.

The training was conducted within the framework of the Council of Europe project “Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia” funded by the voluntary contributions of Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Norway, the Slovak Republic and Sweden to support the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019.
