The CCJE Working Group is meeting from 9 to 11 June 2021 to elaborate the text of the CCJE draft Opinion No. 24 (2021) on the evolution of the Councils for the Judiciary and their role in independent and impartial judicial systems. The draft takes stock of the developments having taken place since the adoption by the CCJE of the Opinion No. 10 (2007) on the Council for the Judiciary at the service of society. In particular, the draft highlights the competence, tasks, organisation and composition as well as resources at the disposal of the Councils for the Judiciary, their legitimacy and accountability, their relations with other actors including civil society, mass media, anti-corruption bodies, and other issues pertinent to their mandate and operation. The Working Group will further develop the current text and also start elaborating respective recommendations for the Councils for the Judiciary as key bodies of judicial self-governance in member States.
