HELP training-of-trainers under the Project on ‘‘Human Rights Protection in Biomedicine’’ in Armenia

Online HELP training-of-trainers (ToT) session on Bioethics was organised 18-19 January 2021 with the participation of legal and healthcare professionals of Armenia, including the representatives from the Ministry of Health, Office of Human Rights Defender, National Assembly, as well as judges, advocates, lawyers, prosecutors and other professionals. The ToT aimed at equipping the future trainers with the necessary skills to become an efficient tutor for the HELP courses.

The ToT session was opened by Anahit Manasyan, Vice-Rector of the Justice Academy of the Republic of Armenia, Maxime Longangue, the Acting Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, and Laurence Lwoff, Head of Bioethics Unit of the Council of Europe.

Following the general presentation of the HELP Programme and the basics of the HELP training methodology, the participants were introduced to the HELP online training platform (hosting over 35 courses available in more than 300 language versions with over 77000 users worldwide).

Substantial presentation on Genetic testing was made by Fabio Macioce, co-author of the HELP Course on Bioethics. Katrin Uerpmann, the Deputy-Secretary of DH-BIO, has intervened on ‘‘The Council of Europe’s work in the area of Bioethics’’, as well as on ‘‘Medical Secret and Confidentiality’’. Participants were also provided with practical materials and resources developed by the HELP Programme for the purposes of tutoring on-line courses.

The Course will be tutored by Mikayel Khachatryan, professor of Law, Academic Director of ‘‘Health Law’’ master Programme at Russian-Armenian Slavonic University. The participants of this training session who successfully complete their assignment will become HELP certified trainers in the field of Biomedicine. They will be added to the pool of HELP certified trainers, publicly available on the HELP website.

The Training session was organised under the framework of the Council of Europe’s Project on ‘‘Protection of Human Rights in Biomedicine’’ in Armenia in close cooperation with the Academy of Justice of RA.
