The 1st meeting of the Restricted Group of Experts on Climate Change and Biodiversity under the Bern Convention took place in Paris 14-15 June.

The Group’s mandate was to plan the next reporting round on Parties’ compliance with Bern Convention Recommendations on climate change and biodiversity. The Group further discussed ways of promoting and implementing action on the priority areas of work identified at the last meeting of the full Group of Experts in 2016; e.g. adaptive management of protected areas, communication strategies and assessment of Bern Convention species vulnerability to climate change. Another expected outcome of the meeting was the identification of synergies and possible work avenues between the Bern Convention, the Council of Europe EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement and the PEDRR.
