The Group of Experts on Protected Areas and Ecological Networks held its 9th meeting on 4 and 5 October 2018 in Strasbourg.

The Group followed up on its last year’s decision to carry out a reporting under Resolution No. 8 (2012) on the conservation status of species and habitats. Parties were invited to review outstanding reference documents supporting the reporting which are hosted on a newly created Reporting Reference Portal and on redesigned Emerald Network Reference Portal. The Group also continued its discussions on the ecological character of Emerald Network sites initiated in 2017, exchanged views on the evolvement of the sufficiency of the Emerald Network and examined a proposal of delineation of marine regions.
